Greene County Tennis Association Receives $750 Grant |
|
Greene County Juvenile and Sessions Judge Kenneth Bailey announced today that the First Tennessee Human Resources Agency has awarded $750 to the Greene County Tennis Association with funds allocated from the Greene County justice system. The grant will be used to assist in the creation of a National Junior Tennis & Learning program in Greene County. Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, and Sheridan Snyder founded the National Junior Tennis & Learning network in 1969; the program is administered by the United States Tennis Association through a network of chapters in more than 550 communities across the United States. NJTL develops the character of young people by emphasizing the ideals and life of Arthur Ashe and strengthen core local communities by using tennis and education to help keep kids safe, healthy, and strong. The program instills the values exemplified by Arthur Ashe during his life – humanitarianism, leadership, and academic excellence. Judge Bailey, a lifetime tennis player and the father of three young children, noted the positive benefits that tennis and the NJTL program offer: “As a juvenile judge, I am always searching for good alternatives and activities for youth and their families. The NJTL program, the Greene County Tennis Association, and its teaching professional Bart Kennedy are outstanding and I am glad to help make tennis available to all youth through grant funds. This investment will pay dividends for our community.” The Greene County Tennis Association is seeking partners to provide NJTL programming, which is scheduled to begin in September 2010 at the Greeneville-Greene County Tennis Center, 1209 Hal Henard Road, Greeneville, Tennessee 37743. Call Helen Smith at 329-3847 if you are interested in this exciting new program. |
