The West Hills Tennis Rescue Project

The GKTA Board of Directors has started a fundraising campaign to renovate and develop the West Hills Park tennis courts and create the West Hills Tennis Center. Currently, these courts are used for many programs including middle and high school matches, as well as the Never-Ever Seniors program. In addition, the GKTA would like to use them for various USTA League and interclub matches.

Once renovated, the chances of Knoxville successfully bidding on state and sectional championships would greatly increase. Such events bring in big tourist dollars that help enhance the city's economy. GKTA Board of Directors has been working hard on this project for the past two years.

The GKTA and the tennis community MUST show financial commitment to the City of Knoxville that we support this important project. By partnering with the City of Knoxville (and through the City Recreation and Parks Commission--the State of Tennessee), applications for grants totaling more than $100,000 are being submitted for tennis court renovation and new construction. However, even this is not enough.

To show its support, the GKTA has pledged $50,000 for this project. In addition, the GKTA has maintained the $5 increase in membership fees to $20 for 2007. The $5 per person will be earmarked for this project only. Other larger fund-raising projects are being planned to further supplement this project. This fund-raising campaign is extremely important to the future of Knoxville tennis, so let's get the ball rolling and win this match! We need the support of ALL people who love tennis in this area. If you would like to make a monetary contribution to this project please send a check made payable to GKTA, noted for the West Hills Park Tennis Courts Renovation Campaign to:
